Dunchideock Village HallDunchideock Village Hall on School Lane, used to be the village school. The Village Hall Trust Committee bought the building and land from the school owners, The Exeter Diocesan Board of Finance, in July 1960 and the Committee now runs and maintains the Hall for the benefit of the community.
The Hall has undergone various building projects over the last few years including a kitchen refurbishment, a rebuild of the toilet block, a new roof for the garage and various rewiring projects. The Committee are currently in the process of obtaining broadband for the Hall - this will help during meetings and we hope will encourage both private and business individuals to hire the Hall. The Hall is fully equipped in the kitchen with crockery, cutlery, glassware, microwave, oven, hot plates, fridge and freezer. The Hall is fully compliant with electrical and fire regulations and is fully insured for both public and employers liability. For further details, or if you wish to hire the Hall, please do contact the Treasurer, details are listed below. Ceiling RepairsSome of the old plaster work on the roof ceiling failed due to old age and brought down a section of the suspended ceiling back in December. The Village Hall Committee subsequently had to cancel all planned events and close the hall until funding had been found and repairs had made the hall safe again.
The VH Committee sought funding from various sources and was able to secure grants of £1,500 from Cllr Alan Connett and £500 from The Norman Family Charitable Trust (www.nfct.org). In addition, following a mob-rule acrimonious meeting at the Lord Haldon Hotel, Dunchideock Parish Council contributed £3,400 along with the maximum £257 grant from the Teignbridge Elector Fund. It also was given £1,400 from Teignbridge Councillor's Community Funds. Half of the Parish Council's £3,400 is now (April 2019) being given back! Why? A long story but the VH is currently lookng for a new Secretary. |
