Footpaths = Public Rights of Way (PRoW)
Public Rights of Way (PRoW) means the public footpaths in Dunchideock. We have four PRoW. It is a responsibility of Devon CC to maintain these both by having them defined on the "Definitive Map" and also by their PRoW team fixing problems - blockages, faulty gates, etc.
You can see the PRoW on the DCC "interactive map" online, or more easily, click on my map here
In order to assist DCC in this maintenance, they have a scheme called the "Parish Paths Partnership" or PPP. This agrees grants to parishes to assist themselves to maintain their own PRoWs.
Some 10 years ago, DCC provided a kissing gate that several Cllrs. installed on PRoW No. 1 opposite Mount Pleasant, on Webberton Lane. The gate is still there today. There is a bench on that footpath.
In Jan 2021, the Parish Council obtained a grant to assist with what they consider to be repairs to the paths. The grant they have now got is £?
What are they going to "repair"? Minute item 16 of their 10 November 2020 meeting, below:-
16. Footpaths
Cllr Robson advised that
Footpath 1 – Opposite Mount Pleasant on Webberton Lane to Haldon Gate
This footpath is operational. The cost of dealing with the deposit of material on the highway exceeds the grant for this year.
Footpath 102 - Village Hall to Biddypark Lane
Public Right of Way Warden is liaising with the landowner about the condition of the stile and replacement with a kissing gate. The council is waiting for a response from DCC with the cost.
Footpath 103 – Biddypark Lane Cross to Idestone
PROW Warden has suggested a better waymarker and to put in steps down to the bridge and is liaising with landowner. The Parish Council is waiting for a response from DCC with the cost.
Footpath 104 - Through School Wood
This footpath is operational and in good working order. A new finger post will be installed halfway on the path to clarify the route. The council is waiting for the cost from DCC.

Anyway nothing has yet been done. The new parish council (August 2023) will perhaps now progress the maintenance.
