Previous Dunchideock Parish Council
The previous Parish Clerk resigned 9 January 2021. Then all the Parish Councillors resigned 27 January 2021
The Parish Council announced:-
The cumulative impact of pressures on the Council, together with a combination of health, personal and family reasons, and the recent resignation of our Clerk, means that it is no longer practical or sustainable for existing councillors to continue.
Frankly, much of this is simply not plausible.
It has been suggested to me that after the Parish Clerk had resigned, he was then taking a claim of Unfair Dismissal to an Industrial Tribunal. The consequence might have been significant damages payable personally by the Parish Councillors. So is that why they all resigned?
We'll have to wait and see for the truth, that will eventually emerge one day.
Clerks do sometimes resign but the whole PC doesn't all resign as a consequence. Something really suspicious has taken place.
In October 2019, the Parish Council described themselves (Country News magazine) as a "motivated and enthusiastic council" Well, that bit of high self-acclaim disappeared quite quickly.
The Parish Councillors were:
Steve Cook
Edward Ellis (re-elected June 2023!)
James Griffin
Stephen Moor
Lewis Oxley
Karen Robson
So why did the previous Parish Clerk resign? A very good question - details here.
Teignbridge District Councillor (at the time) Andrew Swain approached our local parish councils in July 2021 asking if they would be willing to take over Dunchideock Parish Council.

Teignbridge District Councillor (at the time) Andrew Swain approached our local parish councils in July 2021 asking if they would be willing to take over Dunchideock Parish Council.
- He consulting the councils of Kenn, Ide, Shillingford, Doddiscombsleigh, Holcome Burnell and met blank response, indeed incredulity, so I hear.
- I am told he consulted Dunchideock residents by the Lib Dem election mailshot with an almost illegible, undated, uninformative note. Not delivered to me!
- Location of the parish assets such as files, computer, chequebook, etc. is unknown. Cllr Swain refuses to let anyone know where these are.
- Apparently Teignbridge DC paid "immediate bills, including maintenance of the defibrillators for 2021". They said "Dunchideock Village Hall and the Church hope to cover 2022."
Back in 2020, the "Chair-person", ex-police Inspector Ms. Sarah Sharpe, suddenly resigned for "personal reasons and ill health" In her place on the council, Gervaise Cerio was elected 6 February 2020 by 93 votes, to my 12.
However, Mrs Cerio resigned in June 2020, after just 3 meetings. So the election, which cost £1,268, was really an immense waste of public money. The parish council retained the vacancy right up to January 2021, when they all resigned.
At the previous parish council election, a nasty libellous (& very inaccurate, ill informed) anonymous letter, pure criminal harassment of me, was posted to many Dunchideock householders. Police confirmed this constituted a criminal offence but were unable to investigate or resolve who did this. Yes, there's probably a good reason for this lack of police investigation.
